Engine or gearbox problems? Sell your car for parts in South Africa. Free collection, paperwork handled, and fair offers nationwide-even for non-runners.
Many South African car owners face the difficult decision of what to do when a vehicle develops serious engine or gearbox failure. Often, the cost of repair outweighs the vehicle's retained value, or the car becomes non-running entirely. Rather than letting the car depreciate further or paying for expensive towing and repairs, selling your car for parts-especially those with engine and gearbox issues-can be a practical, hassle-free option.
Specialist buyers like Sell Your Damaged Car make it easy to receive a competitive offer, regardless of condition. This guide explains when selling your damaged car for parts makes sense, the process specifics, and considerations unique to the South African context-including free collection, help with paperwork, and how offers are made.
| Scenario | Typical Repair Cost (R) | % Value Retained |
|---|---|---|
| Engine Replacement | R30,000 - R80,000 | 30-60% |
| Gearbox Overhaul | R15,000 - R40,000 | 40-65% |
| Sell as Parts | Minimal Cost | Up to 75% (based on value in parts market) |
Sell Your Damaged Car offers a clear, nationwide solution:
This process works for private owners and fleet managers alike. Vehicles with seized, knocking, seized, or missing mechanical components are all eligible.
Regardless of the car's running condition, deregistration and proper paperwork are key. When selling a non-runner or vehicle with major engine/gearbox issues, Sell Your Damaged Car assists with all transfer documents, including:
This is particularly important for written-off or partially stripped cars, as failing to deregister may leave you liable for fines or traffic penalties.
| Damage Type | Typical Impact on Offer |
|---|---|
| Engine Seized/Non-running | Moderate to significant reduction |
| Gearbox Fault | Usually less impact than engine failure |
| Parts Already Removed | Lower offer due to missing spares |
Once your vehicle is collected, it is evaluated for reusable parts and salvageable materials. The best components (e.g. body panels, suspension, electronics) may be recovered for resale, with remaining materials recycled according to local regulations. Transparent documentation ensures you're no longer legally responsible for the car.
