Learn how to sell your non-running car fast. Step-by-step process: free towing, paperwork support, competitive offers, and nationwide service in SA.
Trying to sell a non-running car in South Africa can be stressful and time-consuming. Whether your vehicle has broken down unexpectedly, suffered mechanical failure, or is accident-damaged beyond repair, a swift sale is often the best financial and practical option. Sell Your Damaged Car streamlines the process - offering free towing, minimal paperwork requirements, and competitive cash offers nationwide. This comprehensive guide outlines how to complete non-running car sales quickly, safely, and legally in South Africa.
A critical factor in deciding whether to repair or sell a non-starter is the relationship between repair costs and your car's retained value. The following table can assist South African owners in making an objective comparison:
| Scenario | Average Repair Cost (R)* | Estimated Value After Repair (R)* | Net Retained Value (R)* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Major Engine Failure | 40,000 | 55,000 | 15,000 |
| Transmission Issue | 28,000 | 38,000 | 10,000 |
| Accident Write-Off | 65,000+ | 45,000 | -20,000 |
*Estimates only - varies by vehicle make/model and region. Always get a personalized quote or professional valuation before making a decision.
| Damage Type | Typical Impact on Offer |
|---|---|
| Non-Running (Engine Fault) | Reduced offer; depends on engine repair cost |
| Transmission Failure | Lower offer; parts value considered |
| Flood or Fire Damage | Heavily reduced; salvage value only |
| Minor Mechanical | Slightly reduced; may still attract higher offers |
If your repair costs are high and offer little retained value, or if the car is written off, selling through a specialized service is usually the most time-efficient solution.
