Do you buy cars with structural or frame damage?

Yes. Sell Your Damanged Car purchases vehicles with structural or frame damage, but the cash offer depends on the extent of the damage, salvageability and vehicle data. We provide an online valuation, handle paperwork and arrange free towing and collection nationwide.

Will you buy flood- or water-damaged vehicles?

Yes. We buy water- or flood-damaged cars; offers are determined by the level of water ingress, corrosion risk and whether the vehicle is sellable for repair or parts. Our process includes an online offer, minimal paperwork, free towing and quick payment where accepted.

Can I sell a fire-damaged or smoke-damaged vehicle?

Yes. Vehicles with engine-bay fires, interior smoke damage or other fire-related issues can be assessed and purchased, with the offer reflecting repairability or salvage value. If you accept the offer we handle collection, paperwork and payment across South Africa.

Do you buy non-running vehicles and those with major mechanical failures (seized engines, transmission issues)?

Yes. We buy non-running and mechanically failed cars including seized engines and transmission faults; the offer is based on condition, parts value and market demand. The service uses a straightforward online valuation and includes free towing and assistance with deregistration and paperwork.

Will you buy vehicles that have been written off by an insurer or are marked as salvage?

Yes. Sell Your Damanged Car buys accident-written-off and salvage-title vehicles nationwide, with offers dependent on vehicle condition, ownership documentation and any police or insurer records. We explain required documents up front, provide a transparent cash offer and arrange collection and payment if you accept.

Understanding Write-Off Car Valuation in Cape Town

If your vehicle in Cape Town has suffered severe accident damage, been declared uneconomical to repair, or labelled 'written-off', getting an accurate valuation is the essential first step before selling. Unlike standard cars, write-offs are valued on salvage market demand, parts value, and potential repair costs versus the current value of the car in its damaged state.

Car write-offs are common in the Cape Town metro, especially after major collisions or natural events (like hail, flooding or fire). Insurers will typically assess whether the cost to return the car to legal, roadworthy condition exceeds a set percentage of its insured value. If it does, the vehicle is 'written off'. For vehicle owners, this can create financial and admin challenges-but understanding how write-off valuation works will help you make informed, low-risk decisions.

Write-Off vs. Repair: Making the Right Choice

Scenario	Estimated Repair Cost (R)	Post-Repair Market Value (R)	Retained Value (%)	Write-Off Recommended?
Severe accident (chassis/bent)	80,000	60,000	~50%	Yes
Minor hail/flood damage	15,000	95,000	~90%	No
Engine failure (older vehicle)	40,000	30,000	~40%	Yes

In Cape Town, rising part and labour costs often mean serious accident-damaged, mechanically failed, or flood-affected cars are uneconomical to repair-especially for older vehicles. If your insurer, or a reputable car-buying service, assesses that repairs will cost more than the expected resale value, selling as a write-off is typically the logical choice.

Note: Many Cape Town write-offs are purchased for salvage or parts reuse. Professional buyers like Sell Your Damaged Car determine their offer by considering demand for spares, undamaged panels, and recyclability-all factored into the online valuation.

The Write-Off Car Valuation Process: Step-by-Step in Cape Town

Submit your vehicle details online, including as many images and specifics of the damage as possible.
The buyer (such as Sell Your Damaged Car) assesses the condition, market demand for major components, and Cape Town pricing trends.
An offer is issued-transparent and obligation-free-applying to vehicles of any make, model or year, whatever the damage.
If accepted, your collection is scheduled (free throughout Cape Town and the Western Cape).
Payment is made quickly upon pickup, and all paperwork/admin is handled for you-including deregistration guidance with the relevant licensing office.

This approach is designed to relieve the stress of repairs, private sale admin, and transport costs, especially when your vehicle is no longer roadworthy or economical to fix.

Factors Affecting Your Write-Off Car Valuation

Damage Type	Impact on Offer	Notes
Accident (structural)	Significant reduction	Parts for salvage may retain value
Flood/Water damage	Moderate to major reduction	Depends on electronics/mechanical
Engine failure (non-running)	Moderate reduction	Age/model affects component demand
Hail or panel damage only	Smaller reduction	Panels easily replaced, offer may be higher

In all cases, original paperwork (logbook, registration, service history) and a clear ownership trail will help you maximize your cash offer. For vehicles under active finance, notify your bank early-proof of settlement may be needed before completing transfer.

Paperwork & Legal Aspects When Selling a Write-off in Cape Town

Deregistration: After sale, remove your name from the eNaTIS register by submitting form NCO (Notification of Change of Ownership) to the Western Cape traffic office.
Invoice/Proof of Sale: Always keep proof of transaction for third-party or liability purposes.
Outstanding Finance: Vehicles with unsettled loans require special consent and settlement with your finance provider before completion of sale.

For further security, choose a buyer that offers verified payment, provides all transfer documentation, and supports Cape-specific admin requirements. Sell Your Damaged Car handles these steps, ensuring you are protected from common pitfalls.

Tips to Maximise Your Write-Off Car Offer

Accurately describe all damage, and upload high-resolution images from multiple angles before requesting a valuation.
Provide the service history, registration documents, and spare keys if available.
Ensure the car is accessible for collection-especially where no longer running.
Act promptly-Cape Town's coastal air can accelerate corrosion and reduce salvage potential over time.
Consult reputable buyers who handle paperwork, towing, and admin with knowledge of local legalities.

What Happens After Your Car is Collected?

Once the deal is finalised and the write-off is collected, the buyer will typically process it for spares, recycling, or registered salvage resale. You should ensure you receive confirmation of deregistration and verified payment. If deregistration or finance settlement is incomplete, follow up promptly with the relevant Cape Town licensing department or your finance house.
