Discover how to sell your written-off or salvage car for parts in South Africa. We offer free towing, handle paperwork, and pay you quickly-nationwide.
If your vehicle has been declared a write-off by your insurer or is so badly damaged that repair doesn't make financial sense, selling it for parts is a practical solution. South African regulations often require written-off vehicles to be deregistered, making resale as a roadworthy car impossible. Instead, selling to a trusted specialist-like Sell Your Damaged Car-not only helps you recover value but also streamlines the process with minimal stress.
We purchase written-off, accident-damaged, non-running, and salvage vehicles for parts across Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and beyond. Our nationwide service ensures that location and condition are never a barrier.
Deciding between repairing a written-off car or selling it for parts comes down to financial viability, legal constraints, and your risk tolerance.
| Factor | Repair | Sell for Parts |
|---|---|---|
| Repair Cost vs Payout/Value | Often exceeds value or insurance payout | Recoup value quickly, no extra spend |
| Roadworthiness | May not pass inspection, risky to restore | Not required; sold as salvage or spares |
| Admin & Legal | You handle all paperwork and compliance | Specialist handles paperwork, towing, deregistration |
| Timeline | Weeks or months, uncertain outcome | Typically 1-2 days with reputable buyer |
For most written-off vehicles-especially those with major body, engine or electrical damage-selling for parts not only saves time and money but also helps avoid further complications.
With Sell Your Damaged Car, selling your written-off vehicle for spares is straightforward and transparent. Here's what happens:
Our service ensures no hidden fees, no last-minute surprises, and clear communication throughout. Whether you're an individual or a small fleet owner, you can trust a safe, low-risk transaction every time.
In South Africa, once a vehicle is written-off by insurers, it must be deregistered and cannot legally return to the road unless fully rebuilt and inspected-which is seldom practical. Key paperwork when selling a written-off car for parts includes:
Our team helps with every step, including notifying the traffic department and providing the proper documentation to protect you against future liability.
| Damage Type | Typical Offer Impact* |
|---|---|
| Front-end collision | Engine/transmission parts may be affected; offer is lower |
| Rear-end damage | Drivetrain and electronics may be intact; higher value retained |
| Flood or electrical damage | Depends on market demand for undamaged parts |
| Fire damage | Severe; only salvageable metal, usually lowest part-out value |
*Estimates depend on age, model and salvage market conditions. For an accurate quote, detailed images and full disclosure of condition help maximize transparency.
Once your car is collected, our licensed facilities dismantle and responsibly recycle it in line with South African environmental guidelines. Usable parts support repairs for other vehicles, and we ensure correct reporting to authorities to close off any future liability for you. This process supports the legitimate used parts and salvage industry, helping keep repair costs reasonable for other SA motorists.
