Learn how to get the best price for your wrecked car in South Africa. See offer factors, paperwork, and a step-by-step process for fast, secure cash and free towing.
For South African car owners dealing with a wrecked, written-off, or accident-damaged vehicle, getting a competitive cash offer often feels overwhelming. Car condition, market trends, and vehicle details all shape what you can expect. The Sell Your Damaged Car team assesses wrecked vehicles of all makes, models, and ages, with no need for costly repairs or admin headaches.
Repair bills for crashed or mechanically compromised vehicles frequently run higher than the value the car would retain post-fix - especially with issues like major structural damage, airbags deployed, or mechanical failure. If insurers declare your vehicle a total loss, or you're facing excessive workshop quotes, selling can often recover more value while saving time and hassle. Here's a quick look:
| Damage Type | Average Repair Cost (R) | % Value Retained After Repair | Typical Offer if Sold As-Is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Severe Accident | 100,000+ | 40-60% | 30-45% of pre-accident value |
| Engine Failure | 35,000-80,000 | 55-70% | 25-40% of pre-failure value |
| Flood/Fire Damage | Varies; often uneconomical | 30-50% | 20-35% of pre-damage value |
Sell Your Damaged Car accepts vehicles from Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and nationwide - running or not, accident, flood, fire, or mechanical breakdown. We cover everything from private family cars to small business fleet disposals, and handle deregistration plus necessary paperwork with low risk to the seller.
| Damage Type | Impact on Offer |
|---|---|
| Minor crash panels/airbags intact | Less reduction; more parts can be reused |
| Major chassis/frame damage | Significantly lowers value; mainly salvage or dismantling |
| Non-runner (motor/gearbox failed) | Offer based on remainder value, year/model, part-out demand |
If your car is under finance, our team will help coordinate settlement with your bank, working alongside you to ensure a seamless process.
