Discover how to sell a non-runner car without a logbook in South Africa. Learn about safe sales, paperwork tips, and arranging free nationwide towing.
In South Africa, selling a non-runner-whether due to accident, engine failure, or being off the road for years-can seem daunting, especially if you don't have the original logbook (registration certificate). However, specialist car-buying services like Sell Your Damaged Car make this process not just possible, but low-risk and straightforward. We offer nationwide collection, help with all necessary paperwork, and guide you even if your logbook is missing or misplaced.
If your car can't start or move-due to severe mechanical issues, failed repairs, or accident damage-repair costs often outweigh the value retained. Extended storage or attempts to fix may lead to further depreciation, storage fees, and logistical headaches. Here's a simple comparison:
| Scenario | Typical Outlay (R) | Value Retained (%) |
|---|---|---|
| Major engine or gearbox failure | 15,000 - 40,000 | 20-35% |
| Severe accident damage | 20,000 - 80,000 | 10-25% |
| Sell for salvage | Minimal (towing often free) | Based on market and scrap value |
Using a trusted company like Sell Your Damaged Car, you'll be guided through the entire process, from paperwork completion to safe, secure transfer-even if your vehicle is under finance or written-off. We serve private owners and business fleets in major metros like Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, and surrounding regions.
Towing a non-runner can cost R800-R2,500 depending on distance and location. Sell Your Damaged Car includes towing with every offer, anywhere in South Africa, at no charge. Our towing partners are vetted and experienced-we handle all scheduling, and you don't pay a cent upfront or after collection.
| Type of Non-Running Issue | Typical Offer Adjustment |
|---|---|
| Accident damage (chassis/flood/fire) | Significant reduction (based on severity/parts value) |
| Major mechanical failure | Moderate reduction; some valuable parts may remain |
| Stripped/Vandalised/No paperwork | Lower but varies; may require more admin |
Full transparency: the more details you provide, the faster and more accurate your offer will be. Reliable buyers won't promise a fixed price before proper assessment.
