Find reputable salvage yards and damaged car buyers in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. Learn the process, paperwork, and how to get a fair, fast offer with free towing.
Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) is a major automotive hub in the Eastern Cape, with several salvage yards and specialist car buyers handling everything from mildly accident-damaged vehicles to non-runners and total write-offs. For South African owners with vehicles beyond repair or facing costly restoration, working with local salvage yards can be an efficient, lawful way to turn a non-running car into cash. However, not all salvage yards are equal-knowing your options helps you get a transparent deal, fast payment, and peace of mind about paperwork.
| Feature | Salvage Yard | Specialist Cash Buyer (e.g. Sell Your Damaged Car) |
|---|---|---|
| Buying Process | On-site evaluation, possible delays, sometimes auctions | Simple online form, instant offer, dedicated support |
| Paperwork | Usually limited to proof-of-ownership | Full assistance, including deregistration and finance settlements |
| Collection / Towing | Sometimes paid by owner | Free nationwide towing, flexible scheduling |
| Payment Speed | Can be slow (especially with auctions) | Fast cash payment, typically on collection |
In these cases, salvage yards and specialist buyers compete to acquire your car for spares, recycling, or resale-offering cash upfront and handling logistics others won't.
| Damage Type | Estimated Offer Impact (%) |
|---|---|
| Minor accident (panel/paintwork) | -10% to -25% vs undamaged value |
| Major accident (structural) | -30% to -60% |
| Engine/gearbox failure | -40% to -70% |
| Written-off/code 3 | -60% to -80% |
These figures reflect general salvage market conditions in South Africa (values vary by make, model, year, and demand for parts).
If you opt for Sell Your Damaged Car, your payment is processed quickly and you receive written evidence of hand-over-no need to follow up for admin or worry about post-sale traffic fines.
