Discover how to sell your accident-damaged car for cash in South Africa: paperwork, valuation tips & a safe, streamlined online process covering all major cities.
If your vehicle has suffered accident damage - whether minor or extensive - you don't have to be stuck with insurance headaches, expensive repairs, or endless calls from private buyers. South African motorists and fleet owners can access quick, trustworthy cash offers for damaged, written-off, or non-running vehicles, thanks to services like Sell Your Damaged Car. We buy vehicles in all conditions and manage the towing and admin, no matter where you are in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, or beyond.
Deciding whether to fix or sell your accident-damaged car depends on repair costs, insurance payout, and how much value your car will retain. Here's a useful comparison:
| Scenario | Average Repair Cost (R) | % Value Retained After Repair | Alternative: Sell As-Is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minor panel damage | 3,000 - 8,000 | 85-90% | Competitive cash offer; fast sale |
| Major accident (airbags deployed) | 30,000 - 80,000+ | 50-65% | Sold as damaged; no further costs |
| Written-off/not repairable | N/A | N/A | Salvage market; immediate payout |
As seen above, repairing major accident damage can cost more than the retained value. Many South Africans choose to sell accident-damaged cars "as is" for cash, saving time and further expense.
We purchase all accident-damaged vehicles, regardless of severity, including those with flood, hail, fire or mechanical damage, as well as insurance write-offs and non-starters. Our team serves private owners, small business fleets and dealerships alike.
Transferring ownership of an accident-damaged car in South Africa involves several legal steps, especially when the car is written-off or cannot be made roadworthy. Here's what to expect:
Our team ensures minimum delay and walks you through the admin, whether you are in Gauteng, Western Cape, KZN or elsewhere.
| Damage Type | Potential Offer Impact |
|---|---|
| Panel/Cosmetic | Minor reduction |
| Structural/Chassis | Moderate to significant reduction |
| Mechanical/Engine Failure | Significant reduction |
| Flood/Fire Damage | Major reduction |
| Non-running/Written-off | Lowest market rate (salvage value) |
These are typical trends in the South African salvage market, but each offer is tailored to your car's specifics. The clearer and more honest your information, the smoother and more accurate your sale will be.
The vehicle enters the salvage market: parts, materials or repairs may be carried out as per legal South African regulations. Most importantly, you're free of the admin burden and ongoing costs.
