Selling a written-off, non-running or accident-damaged bakkie? Learn how to get cash, free towing, and full paperwork support with Sell Your Damaged Car - covering SA.
When a bakkie is declared written-off-either after an accident or due to severe mechanical failure-insurance companies typically deem the cost of repairs higher than its market value. This process makes the bakkie legally and practically ineligible for road use without extensive repairs and re-certification, which is rarely cost-effective for owners.
Deciding to repair or sell depends on the extent of the bakkie's damage, repair costs, and practical factors like future reliability and resale restrictions. For most written-off vehicles, selling is the safer, more economical solution. It avoids ongoing costs (storage, repairs, compliance), and frees up funds for a replacement.
| Bakkie Status | Typical Repair Cost (Estimate) | Value Retained After Repair |
|---|---|---|
| Minor accident | R 10,000 - R 30,000 | 50-70% |
| Serious body/frame | R 40,000 - R 120,000+ | 20-50% |
| Written-off, Code 3 | Often exceeds market value | Significantly reduced |
Sell Your Damaged Car offers a hassle-free solution for South African bakkie owners-private individuals or business fleets-looking to turn their written-off vehicles into immediate cash. Here's how our streamlined process works:
| Damage Type | Impact on Cash Offer |
|---|---|
| Accident, body/frame | Moderate to significant, depending on chassis integrity |
| Engine/gearbox failure | Reduced, but often higher if body is undamaged |
| Flood/fire damage | Significant reduction, especially if non-running |
| Parts salvage | Offer may reflect market demand for panels, engine, gearbox, etc. |
Once your bakkie is collected by our specialist team, you'll receive your cash quickly (usually same day or within 24 hours). The vehicle then enters the salvage network-either dismantled for parts or, if feasible, prepared for auction or export. Importantly, all legal transfer and deregistration obligations are handled to protect you from future liability or fines.
