If you need to sell a non-running hatchback in South Africa - whether accident-damaged, mechanically seized, flooded or simply a non-starter - selling online can save time, reduce costs and remove logistical headaches. Our online valuation process is designed for private owners and small fleets: submit make, model, year, mileage and clear photos, receive a competitive cash offer, accept if it suits you, and we arrange collection and payment.
We buy hatchbacks in any condition nationwide, including Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. Key inclusions are free towing, assistance with paperwork (including deregistration where applicable), and near-instant payment after collection. To learn how our service works and what to expect, see our About / How it works page.
Quick note: If your hatchback is under finance, notify your lender - we assist with the payout process and transfer. For general guidance about finance obligations see the National Credit Regulator.
Our online form focuses on the details that matter: vehicle make/model/year, approximate kilometres, clear photos of damage and VIN/chassis information where available. The faster and clearer the photos, the more accurate the initial offer. For step-by-step help specific to vehicles that won't start, visit our Sell Non-Running Car page.
| Repair cost (estimate) | Typical value retained after repair (estimate) |
|---|---|
| Minor engine work R5,000-R15,000 | Low to moderate - often less than repair cost |
| Major mechanical rebuild R20,000-R60,000 | Often lower than repair spend - selling as-is can be better |
| Body and structural repairs (accident) R10,000-R80,000+ | Variable - depends on age and resale market |
Estimates above are illustrative and specific to South Africa; actual costs vary by vehicle, location and repair route. When repair costs approach or exceed expected resale value, many owners choose a direct sale instead of expensive repairs.
If you’re ready to start, click Upload vehicle details to get your free quote.
Several factors shape the cash offer: age and model desirability, extent and type of damage, availability of key components (engine, gearbox), salvage demand and location. Typical damage categories and their usual impact on offers are shown below.
| Damage type | Offer impact (general) |
|---|---|
| Engine seized or major mechanical failure | Lower offers; strong demand for parts can offset some reduction |
| Accident / structural damage | Variable; severe structural damage reduces value considerably |
| Flood or fire damage | Typically significant reduction due to electrical and corrosion risks |
| Non-running due to starter/immobiliser | Smaller impact if repairable cheaply |
For owners weighing repair vs sell, our Sell Damaged Cars guidance explains common trade-offs. Examples from South African markets show older hatchbacks with costly engine repairs often recover less value than the repair cost - making an as-is sale a practical choice.
