Sell your car with gearbox failure anywhere in South Africa. Get a competitive cash offer, free towing, paperwork handled and fast payment - upload photos today.
We Buy Gearbox-Failed Cars
Competitive cash offers for non-running and gearbox-damaged vehicles.
Free Nationwide Towing
Collection across Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and wider South Africa.
Paperwork & Fast Payment
We handle deregistration and release payment promptly after collection.
If your gearbox has failed, is slipping, or your car is not driveable, you can still sell it for cash. We buy vehicles in any condition, arrange free towing nationwide and manage the paperwork so you avoid repair costs and logistics.
Gearbox failure ranges from worn synchros and slipping clutches to complete transmission breakdown. Owners in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and smaller towns often face high repair estimates and prolonged downtime. If repair costs exceed sensible value retention, many choose to sell their vehicle as-is for a competitive cash offer. Our service buys gearbox-damaged cars, provides free collection and handles deregistration and transfer paperwork. Learn more about what we buy on our Sell Damaged Cars page.
Deciding whether to repair a gearbox or sell depends on repair cost, vehicle market value, age and your transport needs. Below is a simplified comparison to help assess options; repair figures are estimates in South African R (R) and will vary by model and workshop.
| Scenario | Typical repair estimate (R) - estimate | When selling makes sense |
|---|---|---|
| Minor gearbox repair (seals, synchros) | R5,000 - R18,000 | If vehicle value substantially exceeds repair cost |
| Major rebuild or replacement | R20,000 - R60,000+ | Often better to sell as-is to avoid high upfront expense |
| Non-running / seized gearbox | R25,000 - R80,000+ | Selling for salvage or parts is usually faster and lower risk |
If you are unsure whether the gearbox problem is minor or terminal, our quick online valuation can help you compare repair cost versus a cash offer. If your car won’t start, see the Sell Non-Running Car page for details on non-drivable vehicles.
Our process is built for simplicity: upload photos and details, receive a transparent cash offer, accept if you’re happy, and we arrange free towing and handle paperwork. The whole flow is designed for South African owners and fleet operators who want a quick, low-hassle solution. Start by visiting our main page and upload your details to Get your free quote.
If your vehicle is still under finance, inform the finance house - we work with owners and lenders to settle outstanding balances where necessary. We help with transfer forms and guidance on deregistration so you don’t need to navigate eNaTIS alone. For a clear outline of our approach to collections and admin, see our About / How it works page.
| Damage type | Typical offer impact |
|---|---|
| Seized gearbox (non-running) | Lower offers but still accepted; higher parts value on certain models |
| Intermittent slipping / partial function | Moderate offers depending on repairability and engine condition |
| Cosmetic & drivetrain intact | Offers reflect higher retained value for repair or resale |
Once the vehicle is collected via our free towing service, we verify paperwork, assist with transfer/deregistration and release payment quickly. For many sellers this is the fastest route to convert a gearbox-failed vehicle into immediate funds without the uncertainty of private sales or costly repairs.
