Need to sell your non-running or engine-damaged car in Port Elizabeth? We offer free towing, handle legal paperwork, and pay you quickly. Submit your details now.
If you have a car in Port Elizabeth with engine problems-whether it's seized, knocking, leaking oil, or simply refuses to start-you may be wondering what to do next. Extensive engine repairs can be costly, and private sales often attract time-wasters or bargain-hunters. Instead, you can sell your car as-is for cash, with no need to transport or repair it first.
Serious engine trouble can cost a fortune to fix. In many cases, repair costs are higher than your vehicle's post-repair value-especially for older models. Here's a general comparison for South African owners:
| Repair Scenario | Estimated Cost (R) | Typical Value Retained |
|---|---|---|
| Engine Rebuild (older sedan) | R12,000 - R30,000 | Often less than repair cost |
| Engine Swap (bakkie/SUV) | R18,000 - R45,000+ | May still struggle to sell |
| Major Gasket/Head Repairs | R8,000 - R20,000 | Rarely fully recouped on sale |
For most people, selling is the easier, less risky route-especially if time, reliability, or further breakdowns are a concern.
Our free collection service covers Port Elizabeth and the broader Eastern Cape region. You don't need to arrange transport-just upload your car details and let our team handle the rest.
Selling a car with engine problems doesn't have to be complicated:
Selling a non-running or engine-damaged car in Port Elizabeth requires correct deregistration and transfer with the traffic department. Reputable services, like Sell Your Damaged Car, help complete all forms and notify authorities, reducing risk of future fines or license issues. If your vehicle is still under finance, we'll liaise with your bank to settle outstanding finance (offer is net of settlement amount).
| Engine Problem | Typical Offer Impact |
|---|---|
| Seized/Non-running | Significant, but parts value remains |
| Knocking/Tapping | Reduced, may need full replacement |
| Excessive Oil Smoking | Lowered offer, engine likely not viable |
| Small Leaks/Minor Faults | Minimal if repairable, more if ignored |
Even if the engine is badly damaged, transparency and completeness help get a more accurate-and sometimes higher-offer.
Once collected, your car is processed through the legal salvage and recycling network. Usable parts may help repair other vehicles, while scrap metals are recycled following South African regulations. Selling to a registered buyer also minimises risks of abandoned or illegal use, protecting you as the previous owner.
