Have a bakkie with gearbox failure or non-running? Sell anywhere in SA with free towing and admin handled. Convert your bakkie into cash easily.
If your bakkie is stuck due to gearbox failure, slipping gears, noisy transmissions, or it simply won't move, you know repairs are costly and time-consuming. For South African bakkie owners-whether individuals or small business fleet managers-deciding what to do with a vehicle with gearbox problems can be overwhelming. At Sell Your Damaged Car, we specialise in buying any-condition bakkies, including those suffering expensive mechanical faults like severe or irreparable gearbox issues.
Gearbox repairs can cost anywhere from R15,000 to R50,000+, depending on whether the gearbox can be rebuilt or needs full replacement. On older or high-mileage bakkies, this often outweighs the remaining market value-especially when factoring in downtime, inconvenience, and uncertainty about future failures.
| Bakkie Age/Condition | Gearbox Repair Costs (Est.) | Value Retained After Repair (%) |
|---|---|---|
| 3-5 years, low km | R18,000 - R30,000 | 60-80% |
| 6-10 years, moderate km | R22,000 - R38,000 | 35-55% |
| 10+ years/high km | R25,000 - R50,000 | 15-35% |
Tip: Repair costs often exceed insurance payout ceilings for older bakkies, leaving you financially exposed. Consider a fast, fair sale for cash instead.
South Africa's high demand for reliable bakkies means even severely damaged vehicles have value for parts or refurbishment. However, many private buyers shy away from complex gearbox repairs. The salvage market, on the other hand, is equipped to recycle, recondition, or part-out these vehicles-offering fair value that would otherwise be lost if the bakkie is parked, neglected or scrapped without proper process.
| Type of Gearbox Problem | Typical Offer Impact (%) |
|---|---|
| Minor synchro/wear | 10-20% |
| Major internal failure | 25-40% |
| Complete non-runner | 40-60% |
Whether your bakkie still has outstanding finance, is registered in your name, or needs to be deregistered as 'sold to dealer' or 'scrapped', we take care of the administrative requirements per South African law. Our team ensures:
Don't let an immobilised bakkie block your driveway or your business operations. Selling to a specialist reduces risk, saves ongoing costs, and puts funds back in your hands swiftly.
Once your bakkie is collected (with a professional tow operator, always at no charge to you), payment is released and usually clears within hours. You'll receive confirmation of deregistration and legal compliance. The bakkie is then processed for either parts, salvage auction, or, where feasible, repairs by specialised contractors-not road-return retail.
