Learn how a referral bonus for scrap vehicle sales works in South Africa: eligibility, verification, timelines, tax notes and practical tips to ensure smooth payout.
Earn for Referrals
Get a verified bonus after the referred scrap vehicle sale completes.
Nationwide, Hassle-Free Process
Referrals benefit from free towing, paperwork handling and fast seller payment.
Verify Ownership & Finance
Bonuses are paid after ownership, finance and collection checks are completed.
A referral bonus for scrap vehicle sales rewards people who introduce vehicle owners to a buyer that purchases written-off, non-running or heavily damaged cars. Sell Your Damaged Car runs a nationwide buying service that purchases vehicles in any condition, handles paperwork and arranges free towing. When you refer a seller, the bonus is paid after the referred vehicle is verified, collected and payment is released to the seller.
Anyone in South Africa can usually refer a potential seller: friends, family, fleet managers or garage owners. To qualify, the referral must be the genuine owner (or an authorised representative) of the scrap vehicle and the vehicle must be accepted under the buyer’s standard purchase criteria. Vehicles under active finance, disputed ownership or fraudulent listings are normally excluded until cleared.
From submission to payout, a typical referral cycle is: referral submitted -> vehicle details and photos assessed -> offer issued to the owner -> owner accepts -> collection and paperwork -> seller paid -> referral bonus paid. Timing varies by location and paperwork complexity; in many South African metro areas this can be completed within days, while remote areas may take longer.
Note: Final approval of a referral bonus is subject to verification of ownership, compliance with any outstanding finance obligations, and completion of the sale process by the referred owner.
Read more about how our selling process works on the About / How it works page for details on valuation, towing and paperwork handling.
If the vehicle doesn’t run, see guidance on selling non-running vehicles at Sell Non-Running Car. For accident-written-off or heavily damaged vehicles, the Sell Damaged Cars page explains accepted conditions and required photos.
Step 1: Tell the vehicle owner to upload vehicle details and photos via our online form. Step 2: Provide the referring person’s contact details in the referral field so the referral is tracked. Step 3: Once the owner accepts the cash offer and the vehicle is collected, the referral bonus is verified and paid to the referrer according to the program terms.
Example scenario: a Johannesburg fleet manager refers a vehicle with accident damage. After the owner uploads photos and accepts an offer, the vehicle is collected via free towing and the sale completes. The fleet manager receives a verified referral bonus once the seller is paid and paperwork (including deregistration where applicable) is completed. Time-to-payout can vary; urban collections are faster than remote pickups.
Sell Your Damaged Car handles payouts after the seller’s funds are released and all legal paperwork is completed, including any required deregistration. For clarity on selling steps and what we buy, visit our homepage and follow the prompt to Upload vehicle details. If you want to check program specifics or terms, the About page includes more operational detail at How it works.
Referral programs help connect sellers of scrap, salvage and non-running cars with a trusted buyer while rewarding referrers. Always check the program terms, confirm how and when the bonus is paid, and ensure all ownership and finance matters are clear before expecting payout. For a smooth referral, ask the seller to upload vehicle details and photos as the first step.
