Learn how the online quote process for damaged cars in South Africa works: steps, paperwork, tips to maximise your offer, and what happens after collection.
Fast Online Valuation
Submit photos and details to get a transparent cash offer quickly.
Nationwide Logistics
Free towing and paperwork assistance across South Africa, including metros.
Prepare to Maximise Value
Clear photos, accurate history and honesty about finance boost offers.
The online quote process for damaged cars SA lets owners submit vehicle details and photos to receive a quick, transparent valuation without visiting a yard. For South African owners of accident-damaged, non-running or written-off vehicles this accelerates decisions and reduces logistics: you get a competitive cash offer, free towing nationwide and support with paperwork.
Most online quote processes follow a simple flow designed to be fast and evidence-based. Below is a typical sequence you will see when requesting an online quote for a damaged vehicle in South Africa.
Deciding whether to repair or sell a damaged car depends on repair costs, the vehicle's pre-accident market value, time and risk. Use the online quote process for damaged cars SA if repair estimates are a large share of the car's value, if the car is non-running, or if you prefer a swift cash outcome without arranging transport or sale logistics.
| Scenario | Typical repair cost (estimate) | Value retained after repair (estimate) |
|---|---|---|
| Minor panel damage | R3,000 - R12,000 | 70-90% of market value |
| Structural / frame damage | R15,000 - R60,000+ | 30-70% of market value (may be written-off) |
| Mechanical failure (non-running) | R8,000 - R40,000+ | Varies widely; often lower resale value |
Note: these figures are illustrative South Africa estimates. Actual repair quotes and retained value vary by vehicle age, model, part availability and regional labour rates.
An online quote combines multiple inputs: photographed damage, descriptive details, current vehicle market data in South Africa, and salvage demand for parts. The assessor will consider safety-critical damage, structural integrity, engine/transmission condition and the presence of outstanding finance.
If you want more background on how a specialist buyer operates and what to expect on logistics and timetables, see our company overview on the About page: About / How it works.
A transparent online quote will spell out who handles transfer of ownership, deregistration and proof-of-sale. In South Africa, buyers typically assist with deregistration and provide you with the correct signed forms. If the vehicle is under finance, the lender remains involved and settlements or clearances are required before a full transfer can occur.
If your car has a finance agreement, inform the online assessor early. A buyer may pay the finance provider directly to settle the account and remit any balance to you, or require a settlement letter. This affects timelines but does not prevent you from getting an initial online quote.
| Damage type | Typical impact on offers |
|---|---|
| Minor cosmetic (scratches, dents) | Small reduction; higher retained value if mechanically sound |
| Front/rear structural damage | Significant reduction; may be classified as salvage/written-off |
| Engine/transmission failure | Lower offers unless high parts/resale value |
| Flood or fire damage | Material reduction due to hidden/ongoing risks |
Every vehicle is assessed case-by-case. An online quote provides a fast, evidence-led estimate, and a final inspection on collection can adjust the agreed price where stated in the terms.
For tailored guidance on selling a non-running vehicle and what documentation to prepare, see our Sell Non-Running Car resource: Sell Non-Running Car. For general damaged vehicle submissions, the Sell Damaged Cars page explains accepted conditions: Sell Damaged Cars.
After acceptance, the buyer will confirm collection details, arrange free towing (nationwide across Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and surrounding areas) and finalise paperwork. Payment terms should be transparent-many buyers release cleared funds soon after collection and verification. Keep copies of signed transfer documents and payment receipts for your records.
Example: a 2012 sedan with front-end collision and functional engine may receive a competitive cash offer based on salvageable parts and market demand. Repair costs estimated at R20,000 that would not return full value often make a sale via an online quote an efficient alternative. Actual figures vary-this is an illustrative scenario only.
