Prices reflect a mix of the vehicle's remaining usable parts, core market values (including scrap metal prices), transport and handling costs, administrative burdens, and current demand from dismantlers and recyclers. In South Africa these elements combine with regional logistics - for example, proximity to Cape Town, Johannesburg or Durban yards can affect offers.
A buyer will usually estimate the parts value, add a salvage metal value and then subtract costs (towing, processing, dealer margin and any outstanding admin). The final cash offer is the net amount they can reasonably pay while still covering their operating costs and expected profit. This is why two buyers can return different offers for the same vehicle.
Practical note: If your car has a functioning catalytic converter, battery, or intact electronics these items can significantly increase the scrap offer. Always disclose these components when requesting a valuation.
