Safely sell your car in Cape Town. Learn to identify fraud, verify payments, manage paperwork, and use reputable services for a secure transaction.
Cape Town's vibrant car market means strong demand for vehicles of all conditions - including damaged, non-running or salvage cars. However, the same demand attracts scammers and fraudsters, particularly in online and informal channels. Whether you're a private owner or a small business fleet manager, understanding local scam tactics and trusted safety steps is crucial to protecting yourself and your vehicle during the sales process.
| Red Flag | Description |
|---|---|
| High-pressure offers | Insisting you accept quickly without meeting or inspection |
| Overpayment scams | Sending a "proof" for more than the agreed price and asking for refunds |
| Unusual payment methods | Offers involving cryptocurrencies, international money transfer, or cheques |
| Missing paperwork | Reluctance to exchange IDs or provide proof of address |
Selling privately via online classifieds can sometimes yield a higher offer but exposes you to greater risk. Dealers and specialist car buying services like Sell Your Damaged Car reduce exposure, handling processes such as valuation, free collection, legal admin and payment securely for you.
Reputable Cape Town-based buying services, such as Sell Your Damaged Car, offer secure cash offers on accident-damaged, non-running and salvage vehicles. They provide:

| Payment Security | Risk of delayed/fraudulent payment | Immediate, confirmed transfer |
| Towing/Logistics | Arrange at your cost/risk | Included, free collection |
